Our cultural and adventure tour of Senegal begins here. Upon arrival at Blaise Diagne International Airport of Diass, you will be able to meet our representative after clearing customs formalities. He will transfer you to your hotel in Saly. The remainder of today is at leisure. Overnight (Bed & Breakfast). Welcome to Senegal.
After breakfast, we will depart from Saly towards Joal, the birth village of our first President, Leopold Sédar Senghor. From Joal, we cross the wooden bridge to reach Fadiouth. Fadiouth is an authentic island made of seashells, with the possibility of having lunch in a restaurant in Joal (not included). In the afternoon, we proceed to reach Toubacouta in the Saloum region, home to the Serere ethnic group. Before arrival at Toubacouta, visit fishing villages and Kaolack, a former commercial post in the groundnuts trade by the French colonials. We will arrive at our hotel, located on the banks of the Saloum River, for comfortable accommodation. Dinner and overnight. (breakfast and dinner)
After breakfast, we will explore the delta, where the rivers Sine and Saloum converge, forming a labyrinth of islands. We can enjoy a lovely cruise in a motorized canoe into the mangrove creek up to Sipo. The island of Sipo remains mainly untouched and still boasts an ancient and cultural heritage that Senegal preserves. The village is typical and shelters the "Queen of Sipo," who resides there with her family. Visit the town and the queen before going back to the hotel for lunch. Free afternoon to discover the island on your own. Dinner and overnight accommodations will be at the hotel (breakfast and dinner included).
We will eat breakfast, then depart from the Sine Saloum region. The Sahelian landscape, with its thousand-year-old baobabs, becomes greener as we approach the Gambia. We cross the river of this state by its big and beautiful bridge and join the Casamance region in our overland vehicle. This region features beautiful villages made of mud and straw, as well as sacred trees. Check into our hotel in Ziguinchor, then take time to explore its streets with a Creole flavor and visit St. Maure's market, where we can discover handicraft objects from neighboring Guinea-Bissau. We will return to our hotel for dinner and overnight (breakfast and dinner).
Breakfast will be served at our hotel, and then we will depart for Elinkine. We will visit the Senegalese villages of Edioungou and Oussouye, which are emblematic of the lifestyle of the Diola tribe. In this area, you will be amazed by the number of tribal kings and queens who control small kingdoms with some subjects. We’ll enjoy the beauty and diversity of Casamance flora with its rice fields and magnificent palm trees. We continue to Elinkine, where we can admire the arrival of fishermen. From there, we embark for Carabane Island. Visit the island, which was a big commercial center during the colonial era (cemetery, vestiges of the church...), and we’ll have the opportunity to mingle with the local people. Dinner and overnight stay (including breakfast and dinner).
After breakfast, we will depart on a motorized canoe to reach Djiboma, a special island where one family lives. We’ll visit the women's vegetable garden, and depending on the season, we can find many oysters and palm wine in abundance for sale on this island. Back to Carabane Island and free time for lunch. After, we shall embark again on the dugout in the direction of Elinkine for a transfer by our car to Cap Skirring. Check into a hotel near the beach or in the vicinity for dinner and overnight accommodations (including breakfast and dinner).
After breakfast, we will take our bikes to ride towards the village of Djembering, lost in the tropical forest. We’ll have the opportunity to visit an animist village and interact with local people. Visit the mythical and mystical “fromagers”, the Large Trees, where sacrifices were customarily offered. Visit the Eco Park, where we will find a wide range of tree species. Come back to Cap Skirring. A picnic lunch is included. We have the afternoon free to enjoy the beach and other activities. Those who want to discover “Cap Skirring by night” can do it after dinner. Overnight.
After breakfast, we have a free day to enjoy the magnificent natural promontory beach. For those who want more activities, a walk up to the village of Kabrousse could be rewarding culturally. Additionally, your tour leader offers optional excursions to the island of birds, as well as other notable places of interest, including dinner and overnight accommodations (Half Board). Senegal is an excellent destination for active travelers and explorers.
After breakfast, our small group leaves this heavenly place to ride our vehicle towards Ziguinchor. We‘ll cross the Gambia again before arriving in the Senegalese capital, Dakar. We will retreat to our hotel to relax and reflect on this excellent Senegal cultural and active tour, as well as all the memorable discoveries you made on this trip. Dinner and overnight (breakfast and dinner)
After breakfast, our local guide will meet us at the hotel lobby to take us on a historic tour of Dakar. Most of the morning will be devoted to monuments and museums, and the afternoon will be spent exploring the cultural aspect of Dakar's traditions, markets, and workshops of arts and crafts. We will later transfer to the airport to catch our flight back home, marking the end of our services for this Senegal discovery tour. We hope to see you again, revisiting Senegal on another trip. Dinner and overnight (Half Board)
